THE S+T 2019 HIGHLIGHT REEL
Last year at this time, we put some pretty big goals on our list and 2019 has been an epic year and not for the reasons you might think! Sure, we’ve had some big collaborations with Sesame Street where we designed cute matching Rompers for the family and we got some major buzz from celebrities that we LOVE like Hilary Duff, Selma Blair, Viola Davis and more! But it was our constant, support community of #smashtessgirls that was the ultimate highlight!
We asked the founders, Ashley + Tess and Mercedes, the Principal & Director of Operations to share their biggest takeaways and fave moments with us:
1) What was your biggest achievement as a brand in 2019?
2019 was full of big moments for us. We rolled out our XXL sizing and we were able to achieve our goal of size inclusivity. Our Rompers for All campaign (#rompresenting) was so special to us- watching all women of all shapes and sizes feel and look amazing.
Also, 2019 was our most collaborative year yet. Working with Jillian Harris, who has been such a supporter of the brand and who is truly one of our heroes, was a dream come true. We launched not one, but 2 collections of Rompers designed by Jillian Harris and had THE BEST party to celebrate with Team Jilly, our S+T team and so many incredible #smashtessgirls!
2) Which moment was a highlight for you?
Our third birthday party was pretty amazing. We were able to come together with our team, our family, and our community and celebrate all of the joy that Smash + Tess has brought to our lives. Also, did I mention that it was the most epic dance party?!
Another big highlight was supporting the BC Women’s Hospital Foundation during the #shesforreal campaign where all net proceeds of our limited-edition Rompers went towards research and advocacy to support women’s health. It was so rewarding to be a part of something with so much impact.
3) What was the best feedback or message you got from a customer?
At a speaking engagement, we met a customer with tears in her eyes. She told us that she longed to wear what petite girls and celebrities were wearing, but she couldn’t because the styles and trends weren’t available in her more voluptuous size. She was so happy to be able to dress in the same popular outfits that she was seeing on Instagram - and she looked and felt amazing. Our hearts were full!
4) What lessons did you learn?
As the Smash + Tess team continues to grow, so too do we! We continue to thrive off of the support of our Smash + Tess community and evolve our practices by having multiple and differing voices at the table. We've learned about the importance of teamwork and the collaborative spirit, and we continue to better understand our #smashtessgirls and what excites them the most!
5) Quote or song lyric that sums up 2019:
'Who run the world... GIRLS!" We had a blast collaborating with strong, intelligent, and determined boss ladies in 2019. Also- we spent the whole year dreaming up designs that would delight our #smashtessgirls of all beautiful shapes and sizes. It was the year of the GIRL... although... maybe that's every year for us?!
6) What can #smashtessgirls expect from S+T in 2020?
More collaboration, more designs, more colour, more fun!
