Welcome back to the final week of our Motherhood Unfiltered series—where we’re removing the stigma of talking openly and honestly about motherhood without judgment. We’re finishing out this series with Smash + Tess’ very own Megan Rice, our People + Operations Coordinator. She started with us 2.5 years ago and—lucky for us—hasn’t looked back since!
We were fortunate enough to talk to Megan while she enjoys her maternity leave–surely squeezing us in between nappy changes and feedings.
Hi Megan! What have you felt has been the best part of motherhood for you so far?
Hi! The best part has been being in awe of the tiny human my husband and I created. Everything she does for the first time brings me so much joy and wonder.
Something that comes up a lot when getting real with moms is the topic of shame. Do you ever feel shame when discussing your experiences being a mom?
Sometimes. Being a mom is the hardest job in the world but also the most rewarding.
Is there anything you wished that moms talked about more openly?
How you’re entire life changes but your partners doesn’t. You are at your little one’s beck and call at all times.
When you first became a mom, did anything stand out for you as being surprising or unexpected?
Totally–what stood out was how everyone really is just winging it.
What do you think is a common misconception about motherhood?
Motherhood is not always amazing and it’s easy to feel like you are failing.
If you could go back in time and tell yourself something before you had kids, what would it be?
Go with the flow and figure things out as they come!
What would you say is the best piece of advice you could offer to a new mom-to-be?
Not every baby is the same. What works for others might not work for you. Follow your gut because you know your baby best.
Thanks so much to Megan, our other featured guests, and YOU for joining us for our Motherhood Unfiltered series! Want to see more? Check out our other blog posts and be sure to follow us on Instagram, where we always keep it real.
